Records & Earth Day w/ Carrie Danger

Written by

Tomorrow is Record Store Day & Earth Day so I will do my best to hit both topics for us!

First off, Record Store Day is a big deal for those that collect or just like to have timeless vinyl for the sake of their favorite band. So when did RSD get started?

This annual event began in 2007 and is typically held on the third Saturday of April and every black Friday. Many records are pressed and released specifically for RSD and distributed to shops that participate in the event. This year I am going to Blackbird Records in Medina to get my hands on a few I have in mind.

This event is great to bring fans and artists together at their local record store… SUPPORT LOCAL!

Tomorrow is also Earth Day! First held April 22 1970, proposed by San Francisco peace activist, John McConnell, to honor the Earth and promote peace among everyone. Originally, they wanted to celebrate on March 21st as it’s the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere. However, later it was proposed that the nation hold environmental “teach-ins” on April 22nd and it stuck.

You can get involved in your communities year round, not just on Earth Day.
I personally do my part by reusing items I already have, using less plastic and recycling if it comes to that.

Simple changes make me feel like I’m making a difference, at least for my personal footprint. I switched from body wash to bar soap, from loofahs to washcloths, using old towels as rags to clean instead of paper towels. Very small I know but it feels like I am helping even a little bit.

So get out there, get your favorite records, support local AND let’s take care of our Mother Earth, we don’t get a planet B

Take care of yourself and have a great weekend!

Love always, Carrie Danger

The Legend of 420 w/ Carrie Danger

Written by

As you know today is 420! The day we all know and some enjoy and honestly, any day of the week you can hear someone jokingly say “it’s 4:20!!” *add air horn sound*

I thought while you’re between rips and passes we could talk about where this “holiday” began.

Researching this I actually learned a lot so I hope you do too!

Many think it could be the amount of chemicals in marijuana some associate it with a tea time in Holland. However, according to the history channel it all started in 1971 when some college athletes, also known as the Waldos,  were on a mission to find some crops that a supposed Coast Guard member was said to have planted and couldn’t tend to anymore.

So The Waldos would meet at 4:20 to go in search of this free bud One of the original members of the Waldos, Steve Capper, told the Huffington Post, “We would remind each other in the hallways we were supposed to meet up at 4:20. It originally started out 4:20-Louis, and we eventually dropped the Louis.”

According to legend they never found what they were looking for BUT the number 420 became a code for young people to talk about weed in front of adults.

So how did this become so popular across the globe? With a little help from The Grateful Dead (would you expect anything less?) A Grateful Dead concert attendee was wandering through the hippies that would gather before Dead concerts, and a “Deadhead” handed him a flyer that said, “We are going to meet at 4:20 on 4/20 for 420-ing in Marin County at the Bolinas Ridge sunset spot on Mt. Tamalpais.” From there it spread like wildfire. To this day 4:20 lives on!

To close this very long blog, I will say that this day used to be an act of rebellion for younger Carrie but now it’s fun and full of joy especially when the weather is as nice as it was today!

Thank you for reading, take care of yourself and enjoy your night! -Carrie Danger

Brady's Gotta Run... To Girls on the Run

Written by

I was out feeling a little sick yesterday, but I am so happy to be back! Not only is it a big day for 107.3 (Jaci and Carrie will both be out celebrating 420- Jaci’s at Vitrum Smoke Shop until 1:30 PM and Carrie will be at Twisted Headz in Mentor from 3 - 5 PM.) but later tonight I’ll be out representing the station as an emcee for Girls on the Run of Northeast Ohio’s annual Sneaker Soiree

For those who don’t know, Girls on the Run is an after-school program for young girls to inspire compassion, boost confidence, build relationships, and learn the importance of staying active. At the end of each season the girls can walk, skip, or run their way to completing a 5k.

I joined when I was in the 4th grade. If you couldn’t already tell, I was a weird kid. But GOTR gave me a friend group, a place I felt accepted, and also helped me build my confidence by accomplishing a 5k race!

They are committed to reaching as many girls as possible, serving over 17,000 since they started the Northeast Ohio chapter in 2007! No matter financial background, physical ability, or anything else that could get in the way, they make sure all girls can participate.

When I was in high school, my former GOTR coach had reached out, saying they needed a Junior Coach to join that season. I later found out, a young girl by the name of Caroline, wanted to participate, but she was blind. So, in typical GOTR fashion, they made it happen

My role was to work with Caroline everyday. We’d together hold a pool ring, and I’d guide her through the different trails, letting her know when we had to turn or go uphill. She was the sweetest most determined kid I had ever met, and she was not gonna let her disability get in the way of what she wanted to do. At the end of the season, we successfully ran the 5k together, and I couldn’t be prouder.

I love Girls on the Run and cannot wait for tonight’s Sneaker Soiree! If you have a young girl at home, or just want to support an amazing orginzation, check them out!

Tomorrow is 4/20 and you know what that means…. Smoke em if you got em!

Maybe you are the type to throw on a movie like Half Baked, Grandma’s Boy, Pineapple Express, Up In Smoke or Friday.

Maybe you like to roll your own, turn on the music and relax while you pass it to the left.

Either way, I know I’m a day early BUT I figured we could get into some good jams for your smoke sesh tomorrow… or tonight… or whenever!

Here are a few doobie delights (thanks Alyssa) for your listening pleasure!

Let's Get Physical w/ Carrie Danger

Written by

So today is National Exercise Day and I actually wanted to talk about music and working out so what better time than now!

We all know that getting regular exercise, however that feels to you, is very important for longevity and mental health.

Maybe you love yoga, going on a walk or run, lifting… if you’re moving your body you're going to feel so good when you’re done. For me, when I get a great workout my mental health is on point.

Now for me, I have to have music on to get a solid workout. My music of choice is hip-hop/rap and nu metal/punk/classic rock. Everyone is different and that’s the beauty of motivational music.

When I decided to start running outside I was scared to run with headphones in but let me tell you, without my “Run Run Run” playlist I was worthless.

Memory: 15yr old Carrie in highschool in TN and gym class always started with a mile run around the gymnasium. I HATED IT. Until they played ‘Another One Bites The Dust’ by Queen and what a difference that made. The beat was so easy to run to.

So I’m curious, what songs get you so pumped up and ready to kill your workout?

Here are a few that I like a lot to keep me movin’ & groovin’.

Move your body, check your pie chart and take care of yourself. -Carrie Danger

A Day Full Of Concert Announcements!

Written by

I don’t know if it’s something in the air or just that we’re the furthest from Covid lockdown times we’ve been, but it’s setting out to be the biggest summer for live music. And I, for one, am OVER THE MOON excited.

Just today we announced:

Greta Van Fleet is coming to Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on September 23rd. If you tune into AJ at 8:30 AM all this week to win,

Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats is coming to Jacobs Pavilion on September 18th. You can tune into ME, Brady Marks, at 11:30 AM all this week to win.

Flogging Molly is coming to the Jacobs Pavilion on September 15th. Tune into Jaci Fox at 4:30 PM all this week to win.

All the concerts above don’t even have tickets on sale to the public yet so the only way to get em’ before they go on sale is to beat the box office with 107.3!!!!

Another one we announced today that I am so pumped for is Orville Peck! He’s coming to Jacobs Pavilion on July 26th and for that one, you’ll have to keep listening to 107.3 to see how you can win.

Who are you most excited to see this summer?

Over the weekend I celebrated my 34th birthday with some of my favorite people. Among the many activities I attended the Punk Rock Flea Market out at the Summit Co. Fairgrounds.

What a fun experience! There were so many vendors and awesome people all gathered together. From art, to clothing, crystals and palo santos, animal bones and so much more.

My girls and I checked out all we could considering it was packed. Haley bought me palo santos and 3 beautiful prints, thank you Haley!

While there I was just filled with joy for everyone to be experiencing this either solo or with their groups. Earlier Haley and I were talking about how great it is for people to be able to express themselves however they feel is right. Dressing a certain way, having wild hair, tattoos, whatever it is that makes them feel like they are staying true to themselves. It makes me so happy!

For years I did what I could to express myself while being told that I don’t need tattoos or “why don’t you ever just wear jeans?” Feeling like I wasn’t good enough and slowly having me taken away from me. That isn’t the case anymore but the reality is, that’s what a lot of people experience and it’s a huge bummer. Live the life you want and be proud of who you are because I sure am proud of each and every one of you!

You get one life, make it all yours and don’t bend or break for anyone else.

Check your pie chart, take care of yourself - Love, Carrie Danger

P.S. If you want to attend the next PRFM, it will be in Lorain at the Soccer Sportsplex Saturday April 29th at 12pm.

Michigander vs. Ohio

Written by

All last week AJ was giving away tickets AND Meet and Greet passes to see Michigander at the Grog Shop. The show was last night, and when I scurried into the Meet and Greet a few minutes late, our lovely winners were already hitting it off with Jason Singer (the Man, the Myth, the Legend behind Michigander). By the start of the show, we had formed a little posse. I have never seen a group of strangers just instantly become best friends. We were all having so much fun dancing and laughing the whole night, that I almost forgot we had all just met eachother. It's moments like these that remind me that we truly have the best listeners ever -- shoutout Liam, Mckenna, Krisandra, Renee, Derek, and Chris (my new favorite people)!!!

Opening for Michigander was Abby Holliday and a local Cleveland band Who Saved Who who both got the crowd ready and pumped up for the main act. You can hear Who Saved Who’s latest song “Fill Your Cup” featured this Sunday, April 23rd during Live and Local with Aaron Lux!

When Michigander took the stage and started singing, I felt like he looked every single person in the eyes. It was as if he was personally serenading each of us. His voice was angelic, his stage presence amazing, and the show was one of my favorites this year. I may be an Ohio girl through and through, but I'll always have a special place in my heart for Michigander.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARRIE DANGER

Written by

The date is April 14th, 1989. It’s just after midnight in Clarksville, Tennessee, and the earth begins to shake… the moonlit clouds seemingly part in an instant as an angel descends from Heaven. She’s in the form of a newborn baby, and she is blessed with a name… Carrie Danger.

This is my tribute to Carrie, who has taught me so much about being on air, staying true to yourself, loving life, and honestly, how to be a badass woman. I love this girl and hope she has the best day!

She won’t be on the air today as she’s taking the day off (as she should!! It’s her BDAY after all!!) so give our weekend jock, DJ Nivens a listen! He’ll be filling in for her and making sure you still get your daily dose of the DANGER ZONE at 9 PM.

But if you see Carrie around town, on social media or, as I often do, in your dreams, make sure to wish her the happiest of birthdays!
