Today I thought I would highlight Radiohead, I listen to them often and not only that but I won’t ever forget my friend who introduced me to them outside of ‘Creep’, ‘Karma Police’ and ‘High and Dry’.
Hop in my time machine and buckle in! *time machine sounds*
2009, 20 year old Carrie is hanging out with a musician friend Dean and he made me a mix cd of songs that were great! *to the youths… burning mix cds was a really great gesture for your friends!*
Anyway, on this cd there was a great variety of songs from The Roots to NERD to Radiohead and beyond. The Radiohead song he chose was from their album ‘In Rainbows’ and the song is ‘House of Cards’. I was entranced! I was familiar with Radiohead but WOW this sent me.
I fell in love completely with the band and ate up all of their albums.
To this day, ‘In Rainbows’ is my #1 choice followed by ‘The Bends’ and ‘Kid A’
There are a lot of great things out there but I will say it’s pretty rad when someone can make that much of an impact on you through the power of music!
Thanks buddy, he is the drummer for the band Red Wanting Blue, check them out!
As always, check your pie chart, take care of yourself!

In honor of Mother’s Day this weekend, I got to have my mom, Jeannine do my show with me! She killed it as expected, and I am just waiting for the news that she’ll be taking my job.
If you’re still unsure how to treat your mom this weekend, Cleveland has so many things to offer! You could go on a hike with mom at the Holden Arboretum. Take her to the Cleveland Botanical Gardens to see the House Plant Exhibit and visit their special Mother’s Day Boutique! Or if she likes historic architecture, consider taking her down to Akron to see Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, where moms get a free tour this Sunday.
Learn fascinating animal parent facts, and look at all the fishes in the sea at the Greater Cleveland Aquarium. They’ve got Mother’s Day themed contests as well as extended hours this weekend. All Moms receive a parents pin when they arrive.
Maybe your mom would rather relax and lounge for a Mother’s Day Tea and Brunch at the Ritz-Carlton. If the Ritz isn’t your speed, maybe head to the Stone Oven Bakery for afternoon tea and cookie decorating! And if you want an extra unique Mother’s Day tea, the Emerald Necklace Tea Room and Inn has psychic readings!
Whatever you decide to do, have the best time with your mom, whether its biological, your chosen mom, or whoever nurtures you in life!
Today is National Twilight Zone Day! So let’s dive into a very brief history.
The Twilight Zone is an American media franchise based on the anthology tv series narrated and hosted by Rod Serling.
As you know episodes are in various genres including science fiction, absurdism, dystopian fiction, suspense, horror and soooo many more.
Episodes would often conclude with a macabre or unexpected twist sometimes there is actually a moral to the story.
The first series was shot in all black and white and ran for 5 seasons from 1959 - 1964. There were actually 4 series of the show including Jordan Peele giving it a go from 2019-2020. Not only that, the show has led to many spin offs including graphic novels, movies, radio series and more.
So let’s celebrate by stepping into the 5th dimension!
I’m linking an episode that would terrify me if I experienced this as well as the trailer for Jordan Peele’s latest series.
Take care of yourself and keep it weird.

Today I thought I would give a follow up to yesterday’s blog about choosing your words wisely.
I was discussing this last night with a wise friend and he mentioned that most of the time the words that stick with us are throw away comments for that person that spoke them.
Meaning, not everyone is maliciously trying to hurt you. Most have no idea what they said was insensitive and impactful.
No matter what the intention of the comment directed at you, the next step is to either let it roll off your shoulders or do something for yourself to allow that comment to leave you and your mental space OR hold onto it for the worst.
It’s not always easy and we might not completely forget HOWEVER how we carry ourselves forward is the key to success.
Using my example yesterday “real runners don’t need water on hand” so how did I fix this? Well of course I tried a 5 mile without water, not for me… lesson learned. From there I decided I would take water and forget what that person said. It doesn’t affect me anymore as I am clearly still running and staying hydrated. If anything I used it as fuel to push harder and it's pretty funny after a while. Not to sound like a jerk but... at least I'm running and moving my body.
I appreciate that he pointed out that secondary part, it’s really important that we take responsibility for our responses and reactions.
You can’t expect you out of anyone else.
Also, I am posting a song here that I heard on the way home last night and the first few lines really fit with this theme.
Additionally, a fun funky diddy for balance. Enjoy!
So as usual, check your pie chart and take care of yourselves.

We’re reaching 60 degrees today, which isn’t a hot as some of you may have wanted but it beats the rain last week. Because Wednesday means another Walnut Wednesday brought to you by the Downtown Cleveland Alliance, an initiative to bring economic growth to the city we call home!

So do something different for lunch today and support a local restaurant! Here’s the food truck lineup for today.
What are you in the mood for?
Hello all, today is a beautiful day and I was inspired by our very own Brady Marks to write this blog.
Originally, I wanted to dive into an album that we all know and hopefully respect HOWEVER that can wait till tomorrow.
Today, I got outside for a trail walk that turned into a lovely run, it was everything a girl could want. While on this run I remembered when I started outside running, very different from treadmill running, both are wonderful, don’t stop moving your body. I was talking with the person I was dating at the time and said “I need my water but I can’t find the right bag for it” and he said “Real runners don’t need water to run outside”.
Rude. Those are words that stick.
Be careful with things you say to those you say you love, because years down the line they could be doing some mundane activity and your words pop into their heads.
It didn’t deter me from running but I did almost fall over from needing water after a 5 mile run.
So in conclusion, you can catch me outside running with my adorable water bottle and living my best life.
Speak with kindness and good intentions, you want the words that stick to be positive and encouraging.
Attached is a song that is great for running and also a favorite of mine, enjoy!
As always, check your pie chart and take care of yourself.

Today in Alt Rewind we’re playing Mazzy Star! A song I know you’ve probably cried to, thinking about Jimmy in 9th grade who didn’t have a clue you liked him. Or maybe it makes you think of Sarah, who you dated for a year but couldn’t ever feel satisfied in your relationship. Or possibly you think of your friend, Dan who seemed like a good friend, but he kept trying to change you.
It’s off her 1993 album So Tonight That I Might See, the one and only “Fade Into You”. It was composed by Hope Sandoval and produced by David Roback. In an interview when the song was released, Roback told the LA Times, “You have to leave something to people’s imagination, so they feel they can participate. Music is music. We don’t want to be part of that over-determination. We feel you should be able to shut your eyes and listen to it.” It’s a perfect message for this song. You don’t really need to over-analyze it, because its power lies in what it means to the individual listener.
It’s a song about falling in love, a universal yet deeply personal experience. We’ve all fallen in love or lust a little too hard for someone who, for whatever reason, couldn’t give it back to us in the way we deserve. And oftentimes, that unrequitedness only seems to make us yearn for someone more. “Fade Into You” is about trying to be everything for somebody, when actually you’re losing (or fading) into that somebody’s identity instead.
It reminds me to seek out love in the people that feed you. I don’t mean literally giving you meals, but someone who nourishes your soul. And when you feel validated, seen, and heard, your soul is more likely to be nourished. And I hope when you hear this song, you remember that the pain of unrequited love is real, but doesn’t need to last. Find someone who makes you stand out, instead of making you fade.
Hello everyone! Over the weekend I had the pleasure of attending my sister's college graduation in Chicago.
Let me start off with how proud I am of her for not only completing college but doing it against the odds and knocking it out of the park. The amount of hurdles she overcame to get to the finish line just shows how determined she is.
Here is an attempt at a selfie with the polaroid but our brother is quite tall!
The ceremony was inspiring with some incredible speakers that made me want to go back to school. The family and I enjoyed food and drinks at a hole in the wall pub called Black Sheep, fantastic.
I was able to hit a record store called Rattleback Records, it was great! If you’re wondering, I am continuing my Radiohead collection and picked up ‘Hail to the Thief’.
Also got to check out a really cool thrift store called Brown Elephant, please go if you visit the city! These shops were across the street on Clark so keep that in mind.
All good things must come to an end and on my drive back I dove into a band I just discovered called Wavves. If you like a distorted alternative sound you’ll most likely enjoy these guys! I’ll attach the song that got me hooked on them.
Well as usual check your pie chart, take care of yourself.

I've been sharing with you by time spent in Las Vegas attending The Gathering which is, quite literally a gathering of radio programmers, DJs, music journalists, record labels, and, of course, up-and-coming musicians meeting to discuss the future of the industry. We learned a lot about how to make our station the best it can be and saw a ton of awesome performances from musicians we can’t wait to play for you!
Night 2 was such an amazing show, but for today’s blog, I’ll be focusing on the opener. The crowd was getting amped at Backstage Bar & Billiards in Downtown Las Vegas. Blue lights filled the whole room, and we awaited the arrival of King Falcon. We had been hanging with the members of the band, Michael, James, and Tom, in the days leading up, so I was extra excited to see their performance. Especially considering they drove nearly 40 hours from New York, with their car breaking down in Colorado, just to put this show on for us.
King Falcon took the stage with so much energy. Their lead singer Michael had a powerful voice with great control. Tom’s drumming made me want to get up there and hit some drums myself. And James was bouncing around, putting his leg up on the drums, and just getting the crowd going. They all really knew how to work their instruments and the audience, which checks out, seeing as they’re all teachers at The School of Rock in NY.
I got a chance to chat with them the following morning. We sat on the floor of their hotel lobby and talked about their journey to The Gathering, how teaching informs their music, and some more about who they are as a band. Listen below, and also check out their single I can’t get enough of, “Shake, Shake”.
We'd love to hear your feedback, so let us know if you wanna hear more of this band on 107.3! Either email us (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or text our Forest City Shuffleboard text line 216-578-1073 !
