Throwback Thursday - Fall Out Boy

Written by

This week for Throwback Thursday we are going to talk about Fall Out Boy... if you couldn't tell from the title.

So let's dive right in. The band got their start in 2001 in Wilmette, Il. Launching their debut album "Take This To Your Grave" however the same year they released "Evening Out With Your Girlfriend" both of these albums are very much of the times with a much more hardcore punk. The elder emo in me is screaming RAWR =]. <--- that's my old lip ring there.

As the band grew in popularity we come to their 2005 album "From Under The Cork Tree" with fan favs 'Dance, Dance' and let's not forget 'Sugar, We're Going Down'. I'll never forget the first time I saw that music video on VH1 while getting ready for school. Still holds up.

The guys kept a certain sound that is very much their sound... or should I say the melodic, powerful voice of Patrick Stump is so recognizable it is a sin to not be able to know their name if you hear his wide vocal range.

We're going to skip ahead to their comeback album "Save Rock and Roll" and a song we play on the regular on 107.3 'My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark'. Even though the band seemed to roll with the sounds of the time with the millenial clap and the sounds of trash cans being slammed, they kept it punk/emo.

This is my personal opinion... I am not huge on their club sounds in the albums between 2013-2018. That's MY opinion, I really enjoy that harder, heartbroken sad boy sound.

Now let's get into their latest album "So Much (For) Stardust" released March 24 2023. So far my favorite song on this album is 'Hold Me Like A Grudge'. The album feels like a little bit of all their sounds. Sort of pop sort of heartbroken emo kid. I can dig it. As you know we have 'Love From The Other Side' on a regular spin. They added some orchestral sounds to the album and the begining of the title track 'So Much (For) Stardust' is ear catching for sure.

Below I will share the songs I mentioned above and I would love to hear what you all think!
