Fran The Man

Written by
That’s Frannie. She’s my roommate. I am a big fan of cats. Nothing against dogs, but I am much more of a cat person. I like them because even though they’re domesticated animals they are still very much wild animals. In fact, while we spent hundreds of thousands of years domesticating dogs, cats are the only animal that decided to domesticate themselves.    In ancient history the ancestors of the domesticated house cat realized that there were more vermin where the people were because people had the food, vermin went after the food, and the cats went after the vermin.…

Keep Me Plugged In

Written by
The oldest person to have ever lived is 122 years of age. That’s awesome! Personally, I don’t care what the quality of my life is. I don’t care if I’m sucking meat through a straw or if I’m brain-dead.    Keep   Me   Plugged    In!    Under no circumstances is anyone EVER allowed to pull the plug on me! Consider this my official declaration of what I want if something tragic happens. The second you see a doctor reach for that plug you are to swat his hand away and say “No! Bad boy! Now you go to…

Video Saved The Radio Star

Written by
I got through Sunday, against all odds... Fate pointed its gloomy finger at me on Friday afternoon as I was leaving the station and felt those gail forced gusts of wind that left thousands of Cleveland residents without power or internet. My power wasn’t knocked out, but that doesn’t mean anything. I am perpetually on the wrong side of providence. I’m somebody who lets problems go on for as long as they can before I decide to do something about it. I’ve had a slow leak in my tire for about two weeks and I keep telling myself, “I’ll get…

Top 5 Alternative Bands Of All Time

Written by
I’m going to be doing a special Friday edition of this blog going forward. From now on, every Friday I will be doing a music-related top-five list. Since this is the first one I will be doing a pretty basic one, but as someone who has written articles and blog posts in the past I have learned that it doesn’t matter what you say or pick, it will stir an argument and that’s what a good list is about.    Today we are going to do my top-5 greatest alternative bands of all time. There will be some that I…

Music Can't Be "Bad"

Written by
Let’s get this out of the way. Making fun of someone for their music taste is such a pathetic waste of words and energy and it says more about you than it does the person whose “horrible taste” you’re making fun of. It screams of insecurity and pseudo elitism that only exists within the confines of a small brain that can’t handle anything more than men playing loud guitars and singing about sadness, sex, or anger. A lot of times I’ve noticed that the people who like to judge people on their music tastes are the same people who say…

Transcendental Youth

“Some things you do just to see how bad they’ll make you feel.” The opening lyrics to Mountain Goat’s 'Cry For Judas' sits very mournfully with me today. It was nine years ago last month I lost my childhood best-friend to the opioid crisis. Something I completely forgot about until I drove by his old house yesterday afternoon. At first, I lamented the fact that I had forgotten, but then I realized it was only natural. Time makes you forget things. I don’t even remember the days my own grandparents passed away.    He was a good (not great) guy.…

Start Making Sense

Written by
Late last week the film production company A24 announced that they will be restoring and re-releasing the legendary Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense in theaters later this summer. It’s set for the big screen on August 18 alongside a deluxe re-issue of the soundtrack on vinyl for the very first time. This is very exciting news if you’re a monster Talking Heads fan like me, but the thing that bothers me about this is that David Byrne appeared at The Academy Awards a couple of weeks ago to perform a brand-new song that he received a nomination…
